~ The final kilometre certainly has a river feel, a true journey from coast to mountain ~
Swim from the beautiful beach in Aberdovey all the way up to the tidal limit of the Dyfi estuary covering 13km of splendour, a journey that transitions from coast to mountain, from salt water to river water...a remarkable point to point swim journey. Water temperature at the start will be around 16 degrees, and around 14 degrees at the finish.

This swim will be tide assisted. If you can swim consistently for 2.5 hours at 3km/h or more in open water, and you have a sense of adventure, then you'll be suited to this swim. Skins swimmers must provide prior evidence of swimming for similar amounts of time in similar water temperatures.

THE SWIM
We will be starting just after mid-tide - the tidal assistance will be around 7km/h at the start, and drop by around 3km/h after each hour. Most swimmers will be past the 10km mark within 1hr 45m (the railway bridge that you will swim under marks the 10km point).

NUTRITION
The nature of this swim doesn't lend itself well to aid stations, however, depending on conditions, at the 10km (by the railway bridge) there will be water and some nutrition. We advise bringing your own nutrition if you expect to need it.

THE FINISH
You can leave a bag in the dedicated vehicle at registration to include (for example) your towel/robe, warm hat, windproof layer, crocs/flip flops/similar, nutrition. This will be transported to the exit point for the swim ready for you when you finish. This should make the 12 minute walk back to the village a little more comfortable.

COACH TRANSFER
The private coach back to Aberdyfi (included) will leave from outside the Riverside Pub in Pennal. Exact times will be communicated to participants but expect 2 options 11:45 and 12:15.

ROute Video

Mike completes the swim at least once a year on a similar tide prior to the event. This year I faffed around at the end before pressing stop on my watch, thus it recorded 14km!
